EAGLE PASS, Texas - As of Wednesday morning, only one person had filed for a place on the ballot to fill the unexpired term of city council member Gloria Hernandez, who recently announced her intention to run for Maverick County Judge in the March 2018 primary.
26-year-old Romeo Fernandez, the son of a local contractor who had previously ran unsuccessfully against council member Luis Sifuentes back in May, is the lone candidate. He registered on Oct. 03.
Candidate registration period for the seat will be open until 5 p.m. this coming Monday, Oct. 16. Anyone interested in running for the position is encouraged to file their candidacy "as soon as possible".
Early Voting will be held from Nov. 29 to Dec. 29 at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center. Election Day is Saturday, Dec. 16.
City council member Hernandez will serve in her place 1 position until a successor is elected and sworn-in after the Dec. 16 special election.
