Sheriff's office recovers over $40,000 worth of stolen property

November 7, 2017

EAGLE PASS - Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber held a press conference Tuesday morning to announce the recovery of over $40,000 worth in stolen items.

The incident stems from a case back in August when a local resident reported the theft of his 14-foot trailer to the sheriff's office.

Inside the trailer, the man, whose name was withheld by the sheriff's office, had a fifth wheel tow hitch, an air compressor, a miller welder, and a lift engine frame. The items along with the utility trailer totaled over $40,000, according to Sheriff Schmerber.

A thorough investigation followed by Maverick County detectives who later found out the property had been sold to a resident in Laredo.

The sheriff said his office then requested the assistance of the Webb County Sheriff's Department to secure the property.

No arrests have been made but two arrest warrants have been issued.
