Fiery head-on crash kills two women and off-duty Border Patrol agent

UPDATE (12:36 PM):


EAGLE PASS, Maverick County -- Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred December 25 at Approximately 11:50 p.m. on FM 481, about 25 miles southeast of Uvalde.


Preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 For Expedition struck a wild hog on the roadway and entered the southbound lane of travel and struck a 2011 Mercedes Benz CK3 head-on. Both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames.


Ruby Garza, 51, driver of the Ford Expedition and a resident of Uvalde, was pronounced dead at the scene. Julia Vasquez, 51, passenger of the Ford Expedition and resident of Eagle Pass, was pronounced dead at Uvalde Memorial Hospital upon arrival. Antonio Cordova, 27, driver of the Mercedes Benz and resident of Eagle Pass, was pronounced dead at the scene.


DPS Troopers are still investigating the accident.




EAGLE PASS, Maverick County, Texas -- A fiery two-vehicle crash left three people dead and two seriously injured in Maverick County late Monday night.


The head-on crash happened at the Maverick-Zavala County line on FM 481, the old Uvalde Road, a Maverick County Sheriff's office press release said Tuesday morning.


Two women and a man- an off-duty Border Patrol agent -died at the scene. The other two passengers were taken to a Uvalde hospital with life-threatening injuries.


According to the press release, both vehicles bursted into flames after colliding.


No word yet on the reason for the crash.


The case is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
