EAGLE PASS, Maverick County, Texas -- The Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce has begun accepting nominations for 2017's "Citizen of the Year".
According to a press release from the chamber of commerce, the purpose of this annual award is to "foster the community's sense of volunteerism by seeking out and honoring an individual who has voluntarily and without compensation contributed, during the year for which the award is made, in an outstanding and exceptional manner to the betterment of our community and its citizens".
Nomination period will be open until Wed., Jan. 31. Official forms and guidelines for candidate nominations may be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 400 Garrison St.
The name of the 2017 "Citizen of the Year" will be announced at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet to be held on Feb. (exact date and time pending).
Among past award recipients are Romelia Cardona, Paul Alcozer, Morris Libson, and Timothy "Tim" Hardt.
