Former sheriff's deputy accused of sexually assaulting his 5-year-old stepdaughter remains behind bars

EAGLE PASS, Maverick County, Texas -- A few more details have emerged about the 5-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by her stepfather.

According to the Maverick County Sheriff's Office, the report was filed on Jan. 03, 2018, by the mother of the child.

Investigators immediately sent the child to a San Antonio hospital for a pediatric sexual abuse exam, which came back positive.

Doctors and specialists stated that the child showed "clear signs" of sexual assault by penetration.

Frank Velasquez, 39, who for several years worked as a sheriff's deputy under the previous administration, has been formally charged by local law enforcement.

Velasquez remains incarcerated at the Tom Bowles Detention Center pending bond hearings.
