EAGLE PASS, Maverick County -- Relatives of the 17-year-old high school student who was struck by a vehicle a couple of weeks ago have released a statement for the community.

The statement was released via the Nevarez Law Group, their legal counsel.

“We would like to thank the people of Eagle Pass for your continuous support and prayers. Vanessa remains in a coma. She is in a critical, but stable condition. In the next few days, she will undergo a series of operations. Her prognosis is currently up to and/or beyond one year of hospitalization and God knows how much rehabilitation.

Please continue to include us in your prayers so that God may heal her and give us and her doctors the strength to continue to care for her."

No updates on the investigation have been released by the Eagle Pass Police Department.
