EAGLE PASS - A 22-year-old man has been charged in the house party shooting that left a man dead and his brother "fighting for his life" in a San Antonio hospital.
Christopher Anthony De Leon, of Eagle Pass, has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, the Maverick County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.
The shooting happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at a house located on Fallow Run Dr. in the Deer Run subdivision where a party was taking place.
Authorities say at some point during the night a fight broke out between De Leon and the victims. During the altercation, De Leon pulled out a handgun and shot both brothers, killing one of them almost instantly.
The victims were later identified as Miguel and Sabino Salinas, both of Eagle Pass.
Miguel was pronounced dead at the scene, and Sabino sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted to a San Antonio hospital where he still remains today.
About 15 people allegedly witnessed the shooting, the Sheriff's office said. Upon questioning all of them, investigators charged De Leon with the crime.
De Leon appeared before a magistrate Monday morning and was remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a 1.2 million dollar bond.
