Police arrest Sheriff's Deputy for domestic violence

EAGLE PASS - A Maverick County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested after allegedly striking his girlfriend "with a closed fist" during an argument, Police said.

Aaron Horta, 29, was charged with assault of a family member, and then transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $3,000 personal recognizance bond.

According to police, the incident happened at around 11:12 PM Wednesday in a residence located on the 600 block of Medina St. in central Eagle Pass.

The victim, a woman whose name was not released, told police Mr. Horta had struck her in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground. The victim did not require medical attention.

EPTXN was able to confirm that Mr. Horta is currently employed with the Maverick County Sheriff's office.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff's office had not formally addressed the incident.
