SAN ANTONIO - Early voting returns in Bexar County showed former U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego and state Rep. Roland Gutierrez leading an eight-candidate field early Tuesday evening in the special election for Texas’ 19th Senate District.
The two Democrats received 35 and 28 percent of the Bexar early vote, respectively, followed by Republican Pete Flores’ 18 percent share.
State Rep. Tomas Uresti was in fourth with 5.6 percent of the vote; his younger brother, Carlos Uresti, last occupied the seat but resigned in June after he was convicted of 11 felony counts.
Results from the district’s 16 other counties were slowly coming in, but only numbered several hundred votes compared to the 8,439 people who voted early in Bexar. The county made up 62 percent of the District 19 vote in 2016, and totals about half the district-wide vote in the special election, an Express-News analysis found.
Note: Maverick County has not yet released the results of the special election in this community. EPTXN will be publishing them as soon as they're available.
