LAREDO - Investigators in the latest death case in Laredo have revealed the name of the victim.
47-year-old Claudine Anne Luera was found on Thursday morning in the brush near Camino Colombia about half a mile east of US-83 North with head trauma. The Sheriff's office says Luera was alive when deputies arrived but later died at the hospital.
Investigators had been waiting to release her identity until next of kin had been notified.
The site where the victim was found is about a mile away from where Laredo's previous homicide victim was found about a week prior.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
Texas Rangers, Sheriff's Office Investigators investigate third homicide
The Texas Rangers in collaboration with the Webb County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in the same vicinity where the body of another victim was found a week ago.
A concerned citizen reported the discovery to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:28 AM.
A preliminary investigation confirmed, a woman, with head trauma injury, was found off the roadway on State Highway 255 near mile marker 436.
Suspect detained; being questioned
A man by the name of Juan "JD" Ortiz is the man who authorities have detained in connection with the three murders in Laredo.
It is said Ortiz is an intel supervisor for the U.S. Border Patrol in Laredo. it is also said he is an ex marine veteran.
Ortiz is the suspect who ran from authorities this morning at around 1:30am. Authorities stopped his vehicle in the San Bernardo and Jefferson area after what is being said a female escaped from his vehicle at the 23 mile marker on 35. The female called authorities and identified the suspect.
Ortiz ran from authorities towards the Ramada Hotel located by Garden and San Bernardo and then a Man Hunt was underway. Sheriffs, DPS, LPD and Texas Rangers assisted and about 30 min later Ortiz was found on the 3rd floor of the Hotel behind the bed of a pick up truck.
This morning authorities made the discovery of a third homicide off of mile marker 22 on Hwy 35.
Ortiz posted to his wife Facebook timeline that he loved her and his kids before being detained.
