PORTLAND - A man in Oregon accused, of trying to get rid of his wife pled guilty to bribing a Customs Enforcement agent to deport his wife and her child from a previous relationship.
According to court documents, 48-year-old Antonio Oswaldo Burgos pleaded guilty last month to one of three counts of bribery of a public official in exchange for a reduced sentence.
According to the plea deal, Burgos married the woman, who wasn’t identified in Salvador. After he brought the woman and her child into the U.S. the marital relationship deteriorated and the woman moved out with her child.
Prosecutors say Burgos followed an ICE agent a short distance from Portland to a Vancouver, Washington parking lot on May 24th and offered $4,000 in exchange for the deportation of his wife.
The couple was reportedly in the process of getting a divorce.
Burgos could face 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
