Man sentenced to over 30 years for aggravated robbery, causing bodily injury to disabled person

EAGLE PASS - District Attorney Roberto Serna announced today that on January 4th, 2019, before the Honorable 293rdJudicial District Judge Maribel Flores, Rene Saucedo, Jr. pled guilty to the offense of Aggravated Robbery alleged to have been committed on or about June 29th, 2018 in Zavala County, Texas. Mr. Saucedo pled guilty to causing bodily injury to Vanessa Renee Rosas, a disabled person, while committing theft of U.S. currency. Mr. Saucedo was sentenced to 30 years confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. 


Mr. Saucedo also pled guilty to a second offense of Aggravated Robbery alleged to have been committed on or about June 30th, 2018 in Zavala County, Texas. Mr. Saucedo pled guilty to causing bodily injury to Maria Coronado Sifuentes, an elderly person, while committing theft of U.S. currency. Mr. Saucedo was then sentenced to 30 years confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Finally, Mr. Saucedo pled guilty to possessing cocaine in an amount of less than 1 gram. Mr. Saucedo was sentenced to 2 years confinement in a State Jail Facility of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. All three sentences were ordered to run concurrent. Mr. Saucedo is currently being processed to be sent to prison.

District Attorney Roberto Serna stated that aggravated robbery cases in which the victims are injured do and will continue to have severe consequences. The Office of the District Attorney would like to thank the Crystal City Police Department, Zavala County Sheriff Eusevio Salinas and his deputies, as well as Texas Ranger Randy Garcia, for their hard work and dedication in bringing this defendant to justice.

District Attorney Roberto Serna further stated that this should serve as a message to all those who are engaging in criminal conduct that these cases will be investigated and prosecuted in a fair but firm manner to ensure the safety of the good citizens of Maverick, Zavala and Dimmit counties and to reinforce their confidence in their local law enforcement agencies.
