Dallas, Texas.- A 7-year-old boy was hit on Monday morning while crossing Skillman Street near Leisure Drive, northeast of Dallas.
The driver, a 28-year-old teacher, stayed on the scene.
The boy was transported by helicopter to a hospital and is in critical condition.
The Richardson School District confirmed that the young man is a student at Thurgood Marshall Elementary.
The district manifested in a comuncadio that will offer RISD counseling services and are working with the family, as well as with students and school officials.
"We ask that you keep our student and family in their thoughts during this difficult time," the district said.
Dallas police spokespersons report that the woman was below the speed limit and the child was crossing at a place not intended for it.
"The boy was crossing the street for the bus stop," said Maureen Huaringa-Serrano, witness of the events, who added that she and her husband had the green light when they heard a woman and other children shout "Oh my God! Oh my God".
