Uvalde, Texas.- The Uvalde Police Department announced that a 12-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Capital Murder on Thursday morning.

According to a statement, the Uvalde Police Department said that the 12-year-old was charged in connection with the murder of John Duane VanMeter, who was shot in his home Wednesday night.

Police said they responded around 8 p.m. to a shooting at a home on the 600 block of Boone Street. Police said that a female told a 911 operator that someone broke into the residence and shot her boyfriend.

Witnesses said that a male subject was seen running from the residence in all black clothing with a black bandana across the lower part of his face.

The victim was transported to Uvalde Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The unidentified juvenile suspect was transported to the Jourdanton Juvenile Detention Center, where he is being held on Capital Murder Charges.

Police would only say the suspect is not related to VanMeter.

A local boxing gym - Ortiz Boxing Gym - posted their condolences to the VanMeter family along with a video of VanMeter working with a young boxer.
